Going into the 2009 NFL Draft the Cowboys have plenty of needs even though they are returning a strong core of players. These are my Top 5 areas for Jerry Jones to improve upon.

1. Safety-The Dallas Cowboys weakness at Safety became glaringly apparent with the decline of Roy Williams. The teams who could exploit this weakness had no trouble scoring at will. Look for Jerry to look for a safety first and often. The top safety available is Louis Delmas from Western Michigan, but don’t look for him to fall far enough for the Cowboys to pick him up.

2. Offensive Tackle-Obviously the Cowboys are getting old at this spot. Now is a good time to start stockpiling for the future.

3. Linebacker-It is becoming apparent that Bobby Carpenter isn’t going to be a future cornerstone of the defense. You know Wade Phillips is going to want to shore up his defense here.

4. Wide Receiver-Yes, we have a lot of wide receivers but are any of them dominant? I don’t think so, and Jerry loves to draft him some receiver.

5. Cornerback-It is usually possible to find some gems in the later rounds in the defensive backfield. Teams are afraid to spend early picks on unproven guys who aren’t stars at the hot positions, QB, RB, WR.

There are many places for Jerry Jones and his boys to improve. Moving into the new stadium this year, it is important for the Cowboys to perform well and keep the fans coming back. You can bet that Jerry will be wheeling and dealing on Draft Day 2009. I can’t wait!
