The Dallas Cowboys have finally thrown their hat in the ring and drafted some players in the third round of NFL Draft 2009. Believe it or not, Jerry Jones made a trade that adds another pick to the Cowboys list of 12 picks today.
In a minor trade the Cowboys swapped fourth round picks with the Bucs and acquired an extra seventh round pick. That leaves the Cowboys with 3 picks in each of the fourth, fifth and seventh rounds and 2 picks in the sixth. That is, if Jerry doesn’t make any other trades.
So, in the third round the Cowboys drafted Jason Williams, a linebacker from Western Illinois. He will most likely play special teams this season and fill in at LB.
With their other pick in the third round, Dallas took an offensive lineman from Ball State. Robert Brewster played tackle in college but will most likely move inside to guard.
As suspected, Jerry and Stephen Jones are looking to fill holes in the backup roles on defense. With all these picks they will get to take a look at lots of talented athletes in training camp this year.
