Yes, that is defense with a little “d”. Jon Kitna was right after all. The Dallas Cowboys defense had absolutely no answer for a Detroit offense that doesn’t have a win in their last 5 games.
Terence Newman, who warned anyone who would listen that he was going to do harm to Kitna in todays matchup, never got close enough to the Lions QB to see what number he was wearing.
But, Tony Romo showed the patience of Job, in a scaled back Cowboys offensive attack. The Lions defense locked down the Cowboys wide receivers most of the day, limiting Terrel Owens to 21 yards on 3 catches. So, all Romo did was complete 27 short passes. Tight end Jason Witten had a career high 15 catches and the Cowboys running backs Marion Barber and Julius Jones combined for 12 more.
Romo’s touchdown pass Whitten with 18 seconds remaining gave Dallas a 28-27 victory, clinched first place in the NFC East, and added to the legend of his young career.
