In a decision by Wade Philips that will be second guessed for the rest of this year, Choice became the goat of the game. In reality, with only 4 seconds left and the ball on their own 35 yard line, Dallas should have kneeled on the ball and gone to the locker room trailing only 3-0. The head coach thought otherwise and it cost them a touchdown and probably the game.

The Cowboys were able to keep the game close in the second half however, and almost won on the last play of the game. A holding call against Alex Barron nullified the game winning touchdown pass from Tony Romo to Roy Williams, leaving the Cowboys shocked.

It was a game where they had plenty of chances to take the game over, but mistakes were the downfall for the offense. In order to beat the Bears next week, Dallas will need to be more consistent and find a way to get the ball in the end zone. Maybe easier said than done.

Well…yes and no. Roy Williams the safety has been a member of the Cowboys since being drafted out of the University of Oklahoma in 2002. But he hasn’t played much this year since suffering an injury in the first game of the season.

Roy Williams, the wide receiver, has been a member of the Detroit Lions since being drafted in 2004 out of the University of Texas.

Today the Cowboys traded 3 draft picks to the Detroit Lions to acquire the receiver Roy Williams. This comes after a rash of injuries has hit the team. This week alone they lost starting QB Tony Romo for 3-4 weeks, star rookie RB Felix Jones for 2-4 weeks, punter Mat McBriar for the season. More importantly, receiver Sam Hurd re-aggravated a leg injury that may require season ending surgery.

Williams will pair with Terrell Owens, to give Dallas one of the top WR tandems in the league. Patrick Crayton will likely see reduced playing time as Roy Williams will be worked into the lineup quickly.

This move should give the Cowboys a little more depth and firepower at the WR position. Hopefully that will loosen things up a bit for the running backs. I look for Marion Barber to have a big game this week against the St. Louis Rams.

Quarterback Tony Romo injured his thumb during the game. He was able to finish, but had his worst game as a starter. After a few days of rest he was able to participate in Wednesday’s full practice so we should expect him to start this Saturday in Carolina.

Pat Watkins will miss the game this week with a sprained ankle but should be back next week. The news sounds the same as far as Andre Gurode’s knee.

Terry Glenn made a step forward again this week. He practiced in seven-on-seven drills. In his press conference, Wade Phillips said there is a possibility Glenn could play this week but I wouldn’t expect to see him until the final game against Washington.

Roy Williams has also been officially suspended by the NFL for repeated horse-collar tackle violations. Keith Davis will take up most of the slack left from Roy’s absence. The suspension will last for one game but it will be interesting to hear what the penalty for his next violation will be. Apparently he can’t help himself.

All things considered, the Cowboys should match up well against Carolina this Saturday as long as Terence Newman and Anthony Henry are feeling alright.

Oh, that reminds me, Pro Bowl selections for February’s game in Hawaii were released today. 11 Cowboys were included. So if you happen to be one of the few people to watch the game, you’ll see some familiar faces.

Terence Newman, who warned anyone who would listen that he was going to do harm to Kitna in todays matchup, never got close enough to the Lions QB to see what number he was wearing.

But, Tony Romo showed the patience of Job, in a scaled back Cowboys offensive attack. The Lions defense locked down the Cowboys wide receivers most of the day, limiting Terrel Owens to 21 yards on 3 catches. So, all Romo did was complete 27 short passes. Tight end Jason Witten had a career high 15 catches and the Cowboys running backs Marion Barber and Julius Jones combined for 12 more.

Romo’s touchdown pass Whitten with 18 seconds remaining gave Dallas a 28-27 victory, clinched first place in the NFC East, and added to the legend of his young career.

As the Dallas Cowboys are on the brink of something big, for the first time in a decade they are poised to make a run at the Super Bowl.
